The student loan debt crisis in the United States is a major issue impacting millions of borrowers. As of September 2023, there's over $1.6 trillion in federal student loan debt alone, owed by over 43 million borrowers. Including private loans, the total debt surpasses $1.7 trillion. This debt can significantly impact borrowers' financial well-being, delaying milestones like homeownership, starting a family, or saving for retirement. This crisis is caused by rising tuition costs, increased reliance on loans and loan servicing companies that profit from the high interest rates that are charged.
